When it comes to high school senior yearbook quotes most people try to come up with something really memorable.
After all, this is your final chance to leave a lasting impression, forever memorialized in the pages of your school’s annual publication.
But for high school senior, Cade Wessel, he didn’t just want to stop short at merely memorable, oh no, he wanted his quote to go down in the annals of yearbook history as “legendary.”
So, he decided to make a bet on his future. And six years later? He won.
High School Senior Makes a $20 Bet
Six years ago, Cade Wessel made a bold prediction in his senior quote in the school yearbook.

According to an interview with People, Cade Wessel and Sarah Dill met in sixth grade, quickly becoming fast friends. For years they stayed firmly in the friend zone. But partway through their senior year of high school, something shifted and their relationship took a romantic turn.
A few weeks after they first started dating, Cade was tasked with writing his senior quote in the school yearbook.
“Some were trying to think of funny things to say. Others were attempting to be profound,” Cade, 24, said.
“But I sat there, isolated myself and thought, ‘I’m going to do something legendary.'”
He decided to shoot his shot. And then he sealed the deal, putting his money where his mouth was.
“Twenty bucks I marry Sarah Dill.”
Famous last words.
Two of his friends took the bet and handed over their cash. Cade added his $20 to theirs and tucked the money into an envelope for safekeeping.
The fact that the couple hadn’t been dating for long didn’t seem to matter to Cade. He told People that he knew how he felt and “wasn’t nervous” about putting it in black and white for all of eternity in his high school’s yearbook.
“I knew in my heart of hearts that was how I felt. Whether or not it came true was not entirely up to me, but I felt like it was,” he said.
Sarah, who attended a different high school, didn’t hear about his bold prediction until someone sent her a picture after the yearbook was published. And, as it turns out, it seems Cade has a knack for predicting the future.
Six years later, he collected on his bet — one bride and $60 richer.
On Saturday, April 27 the high school sweethearts said “I Do” at the Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium in Sarasota, Florida.
“When You Know…You Know”
The couple’s wedding photographer, Olivia Derocher, posted a reel of their big day on Instagram. She captioned it, “When you know…you know,” and it, in turn, captured our hearts.
The post has since gone viral, with over 1.6 million people celebrating this sweet love story right along with her. And wouldn’t you know, one of the photos is of Cade and Sarah walking down the aisle, the happy groom brandishing that lucky $20 bill in his hand. He held onto it all this time.
“Stop thats the cutest thing ive ever seen,” one commenter wrote. We couldn’t agree more.
“This is literally the most incredible thing i’ve ever seen. he was SO sure. 😭,” wrote another.
And based on some of the other comments on Olivia’s IG post, they’re not the only ones who were destined for true love.
“My husband told me that he told his best friend he was going to marry me even though we both had bf/gf in highschool 😂 and I never knew if it was true until our wedding, the best man said it in his speech 🥹”
“A friend just had his 50th wedding anniversary. His wife still has the year 4 maths book that she labelled with her first name and his surname! She knew when she was 10. They’re a truly adorable couple, too. Still mad for each other 💕”
As for Sarah? She says their story is “literally right out of a rom-com.” (Who wants to bet on Hollywood calling??)
Not all high school sweethearts end up together. But Cade’s legendary yearbook bet and its heartwarming conclusion remind us that sometimes, fairy-tale endings really do come true.
And when it comes to following your heart? There’s no safer bet.
